Core-Asset Verify Achieves ‘Registered Body’ Status

EDINBURGH, Scotland, 1 February 2017 – Core-Asset Verify, the premium vetting and onboarding services provider, has been granted ‘registered body’ status from Disclosure Scotland.

This new status allows Core-Asset Verify to carry out standard and enhanced disclosure checks, where applicable, on behalf of its growing list of clients in Scotland.

This coincides with the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) introduction of its Senior Managers Regime (SMR), where financial firms are legally required to assess a candidate’s ‘fitness and propriety’ to perform a Senior Management Function (SMF). This involves in-depth criminal background checks.

Under Disclosure Scotland, a Basic Disclosure contains only convictions considered unspent under The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, whereas a Standard Disclosure certificate contains all unspent conviction information (including unspent cautions) and relevant spent convictions.

An Enhanced Disclosure contains all unspent conviction information, including unspent cautions and relevant spent convictions, and any other non-conviction information reasonably believed to be relevant by the police or other Government bodies.

Mike Stirton, Director of Core-Asset Verify, said:

“Under the Senior Managers Regime, firms are legally required to assess a candidate’s ‘fitness and propriety’ for an SMF role before applying for approval, and then again annually.

“Now that Core-Asset Verify has achieved ‘registered body’ status, we are in an even stronger position to carry out skilled and comprehensive pre-employment checks on behalf of affected clients.

“The average turnaround time for Standard Disclosure is 21 days from the time it is received by Disclosure Scotland, meaning that the process of starting an individual in a Senior Manager role can take considerably longer.”

“By removing the need to go through a third party, we can offer quicker turnaround times and more secure handling of candidate and employee data. This relieves the extra time pressures faced by clients in complying with the new regime.

“The granting of ‘registered body’ status is a vindication of the expertise and professionalism of the Verify team. We look forward to continuing to assist clients in this important area of regulatory change.”
